Olympic Sports - Rio 2016 - Grade 5 and 6 PBL Presentation

Working in a team creating a website is quite a challenge and our students shared their websites proudly! Our students have been getting very excited about the Rio Olympics, they’ve learnt a great deal and are teaching their parents/carers at home.

PBL Mini Beast Grade 1 and 2.

The 1/2 PBL presentation on Friday was absolutely fantastic! The standard of learning was truly outstanding. But what was the most astounding aspect was the way the students could talk about their MiniBeasts. They knew so much and spoke beautifully! YOu can find photos of the presentations in Galleries, take a look they're all wonderful.

SMS Text Messaging

SMS Text Messaging Effective communication is a very important aspect of all effective schools. We think a SMS system would improve the way we communicate at West. This would enable the school to let you know details about events happening at our school. Parents and Carers will receive reminders for excursion arrival times, special days, sporting cancellations, times for school activities, evacuations and parent teacher meetings. Having your current contact details is essential for emergencies. Please complete and return the attached form.

School Athletics Sports

Last Friday 15th July at the Old Aerodrome Ovals, the weather turned it on for a fantastic day spent at our Athletics Sports. In what was an unexpected outcome, the final standing were:

We are very excited to launch our new school value – RESILIENCE

Resilience refers to a child’s ability to overcome or bounce back from anything that they find challenging, including events that seem relatively minor to others. This is a very important Value because Resilience shares a close relationship with mental health. Being able to bounce back from challenges or adversity is a significant factor that supports children’s mental health.

We will launch our new school value next week at the SRC Activity day. The students will be taking part in many activities focussing on Resilience. The Grade 6 students will then organise some ball games which symbolise our theme “bounce back and forward”.

All children are asked to wear sporting clothes for the day.

Please chat to your children about Resilience.

Sustainability Ambassadors

Last week the Sustainability Ambassadors had a guest Journalist visit, Jacinta Allen-Gange from Mallee Catchment Authority. The students were interviewed about their recent Lake Ranfurly visits and the difference they made to the site. Jacinta was amazed by our students’ thoughtful responses and their ability to articulate what they hoped should happen in the future at Lake Ranfurly.  The Ambassadors that had been involved in ‘The Lake Ranfurly Birds and Plant App’ were also given a chance to relate and show their experiences especially their drawings of the birds.

Yesterday the year 6 interschool netball team played down at Mansell Reserve for the Loddon Mallee Title and were successful!

The girls won all their three games. Firstly, against Irymple South 22-6, secondly a very close game against Sacred Heart 10-8 and lastly against The Lake PS 28-2. The girls put their best effort into every game and represented West with great sportsmanship and respect. The team will now represent our region at Swan Hill next term. Congratulations girls and the best of luck for Swan Hill!

It was so much fun but at the same time a bit nerve-racking. We were all pumped and ready to play. In the end it was worth it all! – Aimee

It was fun and challenging at the same time. The girls news! – Illy

Years 5 and 6 Environmental Science Program

This poster featuring birds that can be found at both Lake Ranfurly and Lake Hawthorn was launched at the ' Make the Lake' event last Saturday, June 11th at Lake Hawthorn. The poster features our students' bird drawings and poetry. It will be displayed on the Lake Hawthorn display board near the bird hide. Thank you to Mallee Catchment Authority for sponsoring this program. A special thank you to all students involved for their dedication and initiative.
